Scopes Satire

To me a satire is one of the most comical, and entertaining pieces of writing. The satire on science is especially sarcastic. The author says that science is disrupting the beliefs of religious people, and that these people would rather keep their children ignorant than have them expand their knowledge base, and he says normal people like coal miners will never need to know this, why should we teach something that will encourage normal people to ask question. It is very entertaining to hear the exact complete opposite of what we came to believe in the book.

I personally love when satire is used in writing. It makes the story a lot more interesting, and keeps the reader wanting more. In the short article we read, there was satire in almost every sentence. I loved it. Basically the author said whoever thinks their children should go to school and not learn science are crazy. If they couldn't learn science why should they learn english or history? He thinks it is hilarious that they would rather lie to their children than teach them the facts that people have dedicated most of their lives to figure out. But their children can learn parts of speech even if it changed the way they have written their whole life. During this whole article I never got bored, or thought about something else. The author brought up an excellent point. Evolution is a theory of science, you don't have to agree with it, but you should at least learn about it before you judge it!

SATIRE IN THE ONION!!!!

First of all, I love the Onion. It’s such a good magazine. This satirical article is obviously sarcastic because any man would know that education, questioning, and facts are needed to survive in life. As a child, curiosity consumes the minds and questions are sparked. Asking questions doesn’t necessarily mean one is ignorant, only that one is curious. Without questioning things, nothing would ever get discovered. No opinions would be tested, and everything would be boring. Opinions wouldn’t even exist without questions. Everything we have today wouldn’t be possible without the education of the people. Planes require engineering, writing classes are necessary for authors, and the science class is needed for life. Science is the basis of everything we know. Taking science out of school systems means taking the most important knowledge out of people’s lives. Not all science is important, but the science that is, is a crucial part of life. Low paying jobs usually have uneducated and unqualified people serving as workmen. An education leads to higher paying jobs that can produce more of the brilliant workmen of the world. The extremities of satire in this article is used in such a convincing manner that a person who doesn’t know what satire is would think it was completely genuine.

I thought this was a funny reading about how we should not teach science or any subject in school that we are not going to use in the future. It was saying that we shouldn't have to be taught math if we r going to work in a iron factory for our whole life. This story almost got me convinced and i was taking its side thinking that we really didn't need to take classes if we are never going to use them in our life. But then again we want to have our societies be well rounded and very educated, so this theory wouldn't work.

Science Eliminated From Schools?

            The satire arguing that science should be eliminated from the school systems because it is simply filling the children’s minds with useless fact that will never be used. Obviously this is not true, because with out the basic information on science, which is involved in almost everything and even in many careers, we would lose all of the hard work that our ancestors have worked so hard to gain and would have to again start from the past. This hard work is the result of our modern world and without it, we would be living in the past. Without these new inventions, the things we take for granted, would not be possible to do so easily. The author also mentions the low paying jobs, usually for the lowerclassmen, that everyone who does not get an education and learns about science have. However, with a proper education, these people would get higher paying jobs, possibly produce more scientists and mathematicians, and invent modern technology that eliminates the dirty jobs that no body really wants.

I thought the ending of Inherit the Wind was a bad way to end. But then I started to think about it and I realized that it was quite possibly the best way to end the book. With Mathew Harrison Brady dying, it was almost like a lot of peoples faith dying. They were presented with this new way to think and they took and ran with it. I just wish he could have not died but it definitely had to happen. Great Book!!!

The author is showing satire because e is making fun of the bible by using evolution. He is saying that it makes people look and sound like monkeys. Clarence Darrow didn’t call any of the scientists to the stand. And how they brought a monkey on to the stand and they were asking him evolution questions.

The "Should Children Be Exposed to Facts?" satire was a great way of saying that without science we would be stuck in the past. First of all, he says we should not fill children's brains with facts, because then they have information that will be un-useful if they want to be farmers, mill workers, coal miners, etc. This is incredibly humorous because these jobs are those of the past, we have progressed forward with science and now the jobs are more advanced and we do not all need to mine, farm, and act as (what is now, thanks to science) modern machinery. Second, he says children should be taught to accept everything they are told, and to never question anything. Where would we be without questioning things? We would never have our lovely modern conveniences without people questioning things. He also says that all the noblest heroes never cared about facts, which is false. Noble presidents, inventors, and other important people cared about facts and asked questions. I would doubt there has ever been a normal person who didn't ask questions. Not only does he repel the idea of science, but he also repels the idea of learning. We would still be cavemen if we never learned anything! As is obvious, satire is incredibly sarcastic and can convince people to do things they have never thought of before. I enjoyed this article because it was just funny to think that anybody would honestly have those ideals.

This is a satire because what actually happens at school is what he doesn't want and it is not planing on changing. It is the oppoiste of what he says, leaning Mathe, science, history, facts and the truth is what gets us through life. IF you don't have any of these skills all the jobs that you want will be a lot harder to get. He is putting humor into the story to change what people should think about what is taught n school. I agree and disagree with the scarcastic article. First, I would be a lot easier if everyone believe in the same thing and there was no one to say it wasn't true. In Inherit the Wind, the same thing happens. No one wants to believe we decended from apes, and it is easier just to go along with the creation theory. The article also says the the facts have nothing to do with life after school. In some cases this is true, you may not need to know the theory of evolution or about space. But I believe that everyone has a right learn and a right to information. Satire is used a lot in this article to enhance extremities. For example, the article says that giving people facts will allow them to think, and we don't want people to think! I agree that it is a lot easier to control people if no one is thinking outside the box, but if no one was a thinker, we would get no where. Facts enable our mind to wander and think of all the possiblities. If children were deprived of facts, they would be deprived on learning and thinking too.

KULANI IS CRYING... bahahah

This book is surprisingly one of my top favorites. Just because of the fact of the history behind it. Ridiculous enough, there was a time were religion was opposed to sciences, but it was turned to a point of imperialism and great power. I liked how the judge announced that Cates was guilty, however was only fined with a low 100 dollars. Cleaver because what Cates had done was not necessarily a 'crime', but a unlawful law that was broken. This was important because the judge basically let Cates go, with the knowledge that their town law was very unfair and therefore incredibly illegitimate. Even though this part was good, i also enjoyed how at the very end of the book Drummond put both the bible and Darwin's book in the same bag. Shows how some people can learn to open their minds toward different views and ideas.

#1. It is ironic that they are questioning an ape that talks about a trail on evolution. They are trying to prove that we don’t come from ape and that we were created from god but they are talking to a monkey. When Bryans only defense or knowledge is on the Bible so to talk of something else is wrong and preposterous. When he is talking he doesn’t even realize that there is a monkey on the stand.

#2. This is a satire because everything that is talked about is practical but ridiculous. Nothing that is talked about would really happen unless the people went mad. The author uses humor in the story to change it or have people think differently or change sides.

Inherit the Wind Ending

Inherit the Wind is one of the best books that i have read in the past few years. The third act takes a dramatic twist and has a a very witty ending. It has very simple themes, and it is the basic wrong versus right book. The author has you begin to believe that Drummond has the whole case wrapped up, but it aslmost better for cates case that he was found guilty at the minimum fine possible. This shows that the Jury said he broke the laws, but wasnt in the wrong other that that. I think that this should be considered a classsic and read in every school. The part i liked best is the very last two pages, where Drummond shows his impartiality towards either creationism and evolution by putting both the bible and Darwin's book in the same bag. This shows a major theme, that evolution and religion can co-exist within everyones lives, but for different purposes. Drummond just wanted to help out cates, because he was unjustly treated.

Ending of "Inherit the Wind"

I have to say that this is one of the best books I think we have read in class. I liked all the drama and how we made the class a courtroom. Anyway, to stick on topic, the ending of Inherit the Wind was shocking for me. After Drummond made shut Brady down so hard the previous day, I thought there was no way that Cates would not be let off. The author tricked us, in my opinion. He got us to think that Drummond had the case in his back pocket, and after Brady testified, it seemed so. I liked how he switched everything around and convicted Cates guilty. In addition to the ridiculous verdict, I cannot believe that Brady died at the end! I thought that if Brady had won, there would have been a much bigger celebration. Instead, he is quiet and later dead! The whole book was a page turner, and I am still flabbergasted from the unexpected ending.

Inherit the Wind: Act Three

            Inherit the wind is a moving story that shows how a small towns court case can catch the entire countries interest. It follows the controversial case of Bertram Cates (John T. Scopes,) who violated the law by teaching the theory of evolution. I believe that the recurring idea of thinking for yourself is one of the most important things one could ever learn, and that is exactly what this case brings to the people of Hillsboro. The end of the play brings an unexpected twist. Drummond changes the people of Hillsboro and gains their support. When this happens, Brady loses it, and then ends up dying. The jury finds Cates guilty and he is fined 100 dollars. This final decision is so shocking, especially after most everyone switches sides from Brady to Drummond. I find the end of the play a slight let down compared to the rest of the book and does not live up to the build up the beginning gives it, but it shows that not everything happens as you, or everyone else would like it to. I also felt that the book as a whole lacked a certain depth that you find in other books, but is well written.

Satire 2

How is this an example of a satire?
It is funny how this guy is talking about not teaching children the one thing that is true which are facts. We base most of everything off facts and this guy is saying that the basic jobs in the world won’t need to know facts. This is ironic because we go to school and get an education in order to learn facts and the truth. This guy is also saying that we should listen to what we are told and be content with it. That goes against the truth of an open mind and freedom to think and ask questions. It also talks about how we are taught math or science but would we really need to know this for the certain job we want. It’s ironic because we go to school to learn all of this, science math English and all but do we really need to know this? He’s question whether or not a fact is something we need or something useless.

Satire 1

How is this an example of a satire?
In the reading Bryan justifies his reasoning on how evolution is wrong by going back to his usual ways which are the bible. He doesn’t take the time to see what is in front of him and how ridiculous it truly is. There is an ape on the stand telling everyone that he is from the future and that in the future apes will be ruling the world. Brady blows this off and refers back to the bible and how because the bible doesn’t say apes will take over then apes won’t be taking over. He thinks that only what the bible says will happen and is true.
How can satire be used to persuade people?
It can be used to persuade people by showing them different sides of a story or situation. It gives you examples of the element of ridiculousness and the element of practicality. For example the man who wrote about eating babies to keep from overpopulation was a satire. It may sound ridiculous but if you were to eat babies the population wouldn’t be over populated so it’s actually reasonable.

ITW Ending

The end of Inherit the Wind was extremely unexpected. I never thought that Brady was going to die! First I thought the author was just way over the top with drama or something, but then I found out it was true! That the real lawyer in the story did die! Other than that though I didn't exactly understand it. Cause first they found Cates guilty and fined him a hundred dollars, then they said they were going to take the case to supreme court which I thought meant Cates wouldn't have to pay the hundred dollar fine. After that they fined him 500 dollars and that made no sense (well to me at least).

Onion Satire

After reading this odd sounding story, I can easily recognize that it was definitely a satire. He kept saying old fashioned types of jobs for what kids would do after they get out of school. Those jobs are jobs the kinds of jobs we had a long time ago. I think the author is trying to show that if we never had science or math we would never become more advanced and not as smart we are now. Without math and science we would still have those jobs.

act 3

Act 3 wasnt what I expected, I expected some intense stuff like in Act 2 with just a crazy amount of questions and a trial still going on. Overall, Drummond and Cates won, with brady dying and no one satisfied with the trial, I think the trial could have been longer. The story was good, it was fun to read, easy to comprehend, and overall good. Thanks jones

1) The reading talks about how the ape from the future is on the witness stand. This shows irony because it is an ape testifying on the argument of humans evolving from apes. The ape is saying how ridiculous, because the ape is from the future and knows its true.

Act III: It was a little dissapointing and pathetic. It didn't really have a great ending. Cates was guilty. Brady died. I didn't expect the play to end like that. This play wasn't really in my area of interest. It was good, but not good at the same time.

Inherit the Wind had a very disappointing ending. The first two acts were fast paced and interesting but the end seemed anticlimactic. All of a sudden the judge said that Cates was guilty and fined him 100 dollars. The town went crazy, some happy, some sad, and some indifferent. Brady was so angry that he died. That seemed rather lame to me. Nobody would actually die because some of the town didn’t like him. I thought that that was simply bad storytelling. The best part about it was when Hornbeck was making fun of him. Brady was an idiot throughout but his death was unnecessary. The beginning of the book was well written but the end was not up to its standards that it set at the beginning.

Throughout the novel, Inherit the Wind, I grew fond of the book and its characters. For many reasons, the most exciting part of the Book was the last act. During this act Drummond had put Brady on the stand. Drummond was interrogating him, and throwing fast smart questions at Brady. Brady then would return with a short awsner that refured to the bilble each time. During this nonsence i thought that Drummond and Cates were for sure going to win. However, then ending came unexpected to me, and most people, i did not like the ending! The vertict made the hole book seem very dissapointintg. Although, everyone seemed very happy about it because they felt like they won inside. On the whole, the begining of the book was very intreaguing but the end seemed dissapointing even though Cates, Drummond, and Hornbeck felt like they had won.

I would say that Inherit the Wind was a very interesting book. I really liked the part were Rachel admitted to how she was more afraid of her father than she was of falling into the darkness. But the part that I really liked was probably the last act because I guessed that would happen. I knew that Cates would win and run off with Rachel. But what I didn't guess was were Brady died and how everybody would change from being totally devoted to god and Brady to where they weren't crazy about god and not devoted to Brady. So overall I liked the book and the ending.

Through out the book all the towns people have been for Brady and they thought that he was everything, but towards the end of the book they started to switch sides and realized that Brady wasn't as brilliant as they thought. I thought that it was very true when Drummond explained about his rocking horse, how his parents didn't buy groceries and his dad worked extra hours to get him what he wanted. In the morning when he when he sat on it it split into hundreds of pieces. that really shows how you can't always have it your way and that nothing is perfect.Also I thought that it was ironic that Brady fainted towards the end of the trail and then wakes up and start to talk as if he is the President, but really he hadn't done anything that great. The best part in my opinion was how Drummond and Cates believed that they won they did more than just lose a case the changed the minds of some. Overall I thought that this was a very well written and thought out book. I really enjoyed reading it.

In my view inherit the wind was a really good book. I exspecially enjoyed the last act, because i think it was really fascinating. I also enjoyed when Drummond interrogated Brady with all this question and totally confused him. But Cates wasn´t that sure anymore, if he still was right, what i think was really interesting, because he actually won, he only had to pay 100$. What is nothing in my opionion, for breaking the law. And he showed so all the people in the state, that they should think more about their own opinion and mind. Nobody can forbid other humans to think, thats not right. But I didn´t like the character of Mr.Brady at all, he always acted like this big man with so much influence, and then Drummond confused him a little bit, and he was immediatly totally devastated. But the worst thing about the whole book was that he suddenly died, I think it would be much better if he would have accepted that his opinion is not right, and he can´t tell people what they have to think. But all in all i really liked the book, and i think i learned a lot out of it.

The ending of Inherit The Wind ended pretty much as I thought it would. Cates was proven guilty because all the people were so stuck in their old ways and what they were taught. Back in time when this trial took place, people very strongly believed in the bible and didn't accept or teach foreign ideas that threatened their religion's ideas. Drummond managed to crack down Matthew Harrison Brady by being more intelligent and maybe even educated in the matter at hand. He made Brady uncomfortable by talking about things he couldn't comprehend or explain. Like time for instance, he couldn't understand the time of creation because Drummond questioned the logic of it in Genesis. At the end of the book, I thought it was interesting and maybe even ironic that Hornbeck said Drummond was more religious than Brady, because Drummond was fighting against religion the whole time. But maybe he wasn't, maybe he was fighting for different ideas, facts, and opinions to be heard. Also, even thought Cates lost the court case he won. People all over will have the bravery to explore different ideas and stand up for what they believe in.

Inherit the Wind was a very interesting book and I really enjoyed it. I rather enjoyed the last act of the book and I thought it was a very kind of weird way to end a book with someone dying. Evan though Cates was found guilty, he got off pretty easy, with only a 100 dollar fine. I liked how Drummond was using his sense of humor in most of the book, which made the book a little more interesting in the end. I also thought it was kind of funny how Brady died in the end because he was such a strong character to the people of the town. I also liked how Cates and Rachel lef together in the end and how Rachel was telling Cates how she read the book and didnt really understand it but she still read it for him. I actually really liked reading this, it wasn’t that bad of a book.

Inherit the Wind is an inspiring play/story about making changes and promoting the freedom of thought. Throughout the book, many different life themes appeared and taught valuable lessons to both the characters and everyone who reads the book. Drummond is portrayed as an incredible defense attorney, and even though he didn't completely persuade the jury that Bertram Cates was innocent (Cates was fined 100 dollars and has a 500 dollar bail, which Hornbeck pays), he persuaded most of the town. This shows a significant moving forward of the town. Although Bertram Cates was the first to have to go to court for promoting ideas by rebelling against authority, he helped the next average man or woman who has to go through the same thing. He is fighting for not only his freedom, but for others' freedom as well. Unfortunately for Brady, he looses his wild popularity towards the end of the novel and is looked at as a has been. Brady also dies and his last words are those he never got to speak (a presidential inauguration speech delivered in a deranged voice). Even though the ending was a tad disappointing, I enjoyed the book and felt it was amazing at portraying the things we will all have to learn.

Act 3 Ending

This book was such an interesting read and i loved it. I very much enjoyed the ending of act 3, everything ties together in ways that weren't expected. Even though Cates was found guilty he got off with a 100 dollar fine, which really isn't that bad. Just as the judge is about to dismiss the case Brady tries to redeem himself but it is too late. As he starts with his statements the radio goes off, people start to get up and leave, and children run around. Really Cates and Drummond did win, Cates was let off with 100 dollar fine and they got the satisfaction of Brady loosing the case. I did not expect Brady to die, it was shocking, but the way that Drummond stood up for Brady was superb. Drummond was very smart throughout the whole book and he ended in a great way, by respecting his opponet. Also you can tell Racheal reall did want to understand what was going through Cates head, she read the entire Origin of Spieces and then stood behind Cates as they headed off for the train. This was a very fun book to read!!!

Bertrum Cates didn't win the case against him but he also didn't loose. He was found guilty of teaching evolution in a town where teaching it was illegal. In a different perspective he and Henry Drummond changed the way many people thought. Both of them put different views in peoples heads about creation and evolution. Cates was a lucky man that he only had to pay 100 dollars and somebody else paid a 500 dollar bail fee so he got out. There was a quote in act 3 that basically said look beneath the covers because the out side might be flawless but the inside is completely different than you expected. That quote is kind of like Brady. Everybody loved him but they didn't really know him until he got on the witness stand and Drummond made a fool of him.

When we first started reading "Inherit The Wind" I thought it was a slow book, but as we kept going the action picked up and several times the book actually shocked me and brought me in. Act Three in the book was by far the most exciting part of the book. Everything that was building up exploded and blew me away. When the jury was discussing the verdict I could easily predict that Cates would be charged guilty. Reading about the people in Hillsboro it was expected to go against evolution. After the trial when Brady didn't get all the attention, that was a mind blower! I was expecting the whole room to flood towards him asking questions and taking pictures. Instead the crowd was subtle, and it seemed almost as if the crowd began to agree with Cates, and wanted him to be innocent. It got ever better when he wanted to have a few words and got blown off. He went from the top to the bottom in a matter of a couple seconds. Then he died. I would never have even guessed that. Not only did he die of a strange cause, but it was such fortunate timing for him. He got to die right after he won a hugely famous trial. To top off the astonishing act Hornbeck, who was on Brady's side, paid for Cates to have a year of freedom. In that year Cates could easily make the money to post bail. While starting the book you thought you could predict everything that was going to happen, but as the book began to come to an end unimaginable things unfolded making the book actually pretty good. It is definitely a book that I would recommend, and it was a great book to read!

Inherit the Wind was a great historical fiction because it had life, emotion, and fire. I thought it was a quick text that really put you right there on trial with all of Hillsboro. This book makes you question so many things, whether you are a believer in creation or evolution. I thought the ending was very sudden... and its not how I would have come about it. I wish Cates had actually won the case, just to show all of Hillsboro that it is okay to be able to think outside of the box and not follow everyone else. I think Matthew Brady got what was coming for him when he died. Drummonds speeches all throughout the trial were very powerful and his argument was so strong. I like that through all the fame that was given to Brady, Drummond made him crack and put him back in his place. Even though Drummond was said to play the devil's advocate, he really came out as the hero in the end. Even Rachel got her happy ending and an escape from her father as her and Cates decide to run away and start over. This book was a great way to learn about one of the greatest court cases in history, its argument should never be forgotten.

I thought Inherit The Wind was a good book. It was a very easy read which was nice and the author made it easy to understand. I also liked how he put humor in it which made me wanting to keep reading, the southern accent was another good touch that made me laugh when people would try and talk like them but failed. I would have to say Nathan did the best job out of our class besides Mr. Jones. Anyway i liked how Cates was convicted guilty, ya it was sad, kinda, but then it was good when he got the minimum fine that he could of. Then when Brady died it was like a last minuet twist in the story which was pretty funny but then again sad because right before that he wasnt getting the attention that that he wanted to get when he won, the towns people kinda moved to Drummonds side, which i thought was good. All in all this was a good book!

I throughly enjoyed reading Inherit the Wind. It was a very interesting read with both a religious and scientific point of view. The way it was written was very clever in the sense that the author made you want to be one the side or the other in the court case but he didn’t insert his own opinion into the book. The author built up a very good personality for each individual character and was able to give you a sense of who the person was. I like how at the end of the book that even though Cates and Drummond lost the case they turned it into a positive and mad it a somewhat happy ending with the exception of Brady dying. The only thing that I didn’t like in the book was that you didn’t know what parts were fact and which parts were fiction.

The Trial

Although Bertrum Cates did not entirely win his case, the outcome was not too terrible. Drummond changed the opinions of many residents of Hillsboro, causing them to let Cates off easy. Even though Cates only had to pay 100 dollars, meaning he admits to being guilty, I was hoping for a better verdict. Thankfully, Hornbeck bailed him out by paying the bond, which was 500 dollars. At the end of the trial, it was obvious that Henry Drummond did a fabulous job defending. The judge listened to what he had to say and some people had been persuaded enough to change their views on the teaching of evolution. Because of the jury’s decision, Cates did not have to pay the threatening price of 500 dollars, or even worse imprisonment. The case between Cates and the town of Hillsboro was an interesting one, bringing publicity, opinions, and chaos to the stand.

The end of Inherit the Wind was very interesting and a big surprise. It was unfortunate to hear that Brady died in the end of a busted stomach. It does although portray how in the end the victory did in fact go to Drummond even though the verdict was that Cates was guilty. Before this Brady had tried to make a speech to but most of the town left before he could even start and this completly destroyed him. The author just put in a twist of showing how the whole town and world would hear of the trial and what happened and how Brady was put down and in the end he was in the position that Cates had been in before the trial, alone. The end did many twists and turns on how everything would end. For example Cates was bailed out by Hornbeck the reporter which you wouldnt of suspected to happen. It was a interesting to hear that Cates had been charged guilty without arguement because Drummond's questioning was so descriptive and arguemental for Cates. Although he had won the side of a lot of people not only in the twon but in the world because it was brodcasted. It was also interesting to find out that Rachel had read the whole Book of Darwin in order to try and see Cates side. For her in the end she didn't end up understanding what it said and didn't want to believe it but she didn't care afterall.

Inhert the wind is a very good and easy read. There is nothing to hard about it besides that it is written in a play format. The end of the book ended very odd but very good. I like how Brady died to show that if you are the leader and you are to self centered and you think you are to great that you will have consciences. It is good that Cate's and the town came out even and still have to go to another court but they won in the way that they look at it. I also like out that the outcast people came to the top.

gods enduring days

For me, the Genesis was a little hard to understand. I had to read it a few times in order to really comprehend what the text was really saying. The word choice was very thrilling at some points but reading the word "and" at every few words was slightly nerve-racking. The text, however, had a few "juicy words" like: firmament. The women role was lacking through out the whole story though. the word "women" was only mentioned once and when it would mention a woman it would be written down as "his" not just "a wife" but "his wife." Sure back in the day women were not created equal or whatever, but i think the story changed. When I was younger, I was always told that God created Adam and Eve equally. I might just be just thinking that's what  I was told but who knows? So how does this make me feel? This one packet strangely makes me realize how hard women can really have it. Some men think that women can't do some of the hard jobs they can do... but then again its just the way we were somewhat raised, if that even makes sense... Women have come a long way ever sense this story took place. Well, from what I said, you can tell how I think about it, but as i sit here at 11:00 at night.... I can not really think of any legit reasons on how Genesis 1 and 2 really make me feel, but right now I'm just going to remain slightly confused about this story.

In Genesis 1 its mainly about god making earth in 6 days and i personally don't believe in anything so i don't really think its possible to make everything on earth in six days. It was kinda if he just poofed everything on earth and gave them random names. The word choice was very limited at the beginning of every sentence ,besides 2 sentences, the rest start with the word "and". In Genesis 2 it says that god made man and woman, which again i don't believe but i don't know i guess it could of happened. The word choice in this one was pretty much the same as the 1st one. I think this is saying that the only reason that god made a woman was so that men wouldn't get lonely which i think isn't good treatment to us women, its pretty much saying we are only entertainment for the men. Finally, I don't think it would be right if a judge used this in court because what if the people who are in court don't believe in god and they believe in a different religion or nothing at all then it wouldn't be right.

Book of Genesis

            One of my earliest memories of playing with my friends when I was little was going to church with them, but I was not listening to the prayers being said, or the excerpts from the bible, I was drawing. Those were the only times I have ever been to church and I can now say that I am very opinionated about religion. I do not believe in any religion, but prefer to make my own so call religion or belief system, based on what I truly believe. I can easily see how people believe the stories from the bible, probably from just growing up hearing them and being told what the correct thing to believe in is.

            In the Book of Genesis, the word choice again tells you that this is the way that it is and the only way because “it was so” and “God saw that it was good.” It also states that men were superior to women (“…because she was taken out of Man”) and that it is a “man and his wife,” never a woman and her husband. I believe that it is this book that kept women back so much throughout history. In terms of the teaching of evolution, it is unjust for a judge to base an entire court case on a book from the bible in a country where we try to separate church from state. In my opinion, the judge needed to thoroughly listen to both sides and not make his decisions around his beliefs, but in the beliefs of everyone in the state.

Thoughts of Genesis

Genesis 1 and 2, both from the Bible, are written in a unique way. Repetition is a technique used frequently, such as "and it was good," and starting most of the sentences with 'And.' The verbs used in this passage are descriptive and it is obvious that this was written thousands of years ago. Although it is descriptive, the sentences are very simple and the vocabulary is easy to understand, in order for everyone to be able to comprehend it. The story of Genesis makes me think that God "made" women so a man wouldn't be lonely and would be able to participate in sexual activity. It also says that "they shall be one flesh," but I think that gives the impression that a man and a wife have to be almost the same person. I believe that every person deserves independence. I do not think anything from the Bible should be used in court. First of all, not everyone believes in the same religion or even a religion at all. Bringing religion into court is unfair. Everyone has the same rights and laws, no matter what they believe in. Personal beliefs should be left outside of the courtroom and should not be mentioned. Religion should be left out of all governmental matters.

In this section pulled out from the Bible word choice wasn’t very good. The sentences were incomplete and repeated multiple times. Although repeating the phrases many times helps to put that into the readers mind, which is a good writing technique. It is simple which makes it easy to understand.
The treatment of woman in this reading was very low. To take woman and say that they were made and taken from men therefore they are woman is ridiculous. I feel like in this reading they make men seem much more important then woman which I disagree with because woman and men should be equal. It also makes men look more mighty and powerful then women which is not true in all cases. Also in Genesis 3 the woman is the one who takes the fruit and gives it unto her husband. It makes women seem as if they are not as intelligent because the woman was the one who took the fruit after being tricked. Then the book says that the man shall rule over the woman because of her one mistake and I think that’s too quick to give the power all to the man when he too made a mistake.
When the judges choose this piece I don’t think he was thinking about the complexion of it. He chose a very simple and bland written piece. It did though talk about what at that time the government and the law stated was how the world was created and started. So I do think that it was appropriate for the judge to choose that exact book section to present in court.

I am what you would call a christian and have been my entire life, so of course, I do believe in creationism. But creationism should not be taught in school, nor evolution, I think that it should be up to the parent to decide what exactly their child believes and how that idea is presented. Or maybe it would be better if the school would teach both but tell the students that neither one has been proven or dis-proven. When I first heard of evolution it was in a class room and the teacher taught it to me as if it were scientifically true. Either way, teaching either should not be illegal. As for the word choice and grammar, although it is written very bland and often gets boring, that is the way it has to be for everyone to understand. What point would the bible have if it had to be explained to anyone?

Genesis

The Genesis is a very interesting piece of history. It was written a while ago, and uses a very elevated style, and Shakespeare like vocabulary . One thing i do not understand is why this very important part of history is written in a low level writing style. The Genesis uses "And God said" at the beginning of almost every verse, and the end includes "and it was good". This seems to make me believe that a 10 year old has written this and it doesn't seem like a important piece of writing while reading it.
On the other hand, this piece of writing is very male dominate. I do not like how it states that God creates man in his own image, and he does it before he creates anything else. This makes me so mad that man is the first thing, before a women. Also, a quote from verse 23 states "she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." This makes it seem like women are equivalent to dogs by saying she shall be called, and it puts women a lower level instead of having men and women be equal.
In addition, i feel very ashamed about the idea of a Judge using the Genesis in a court room. Only because i feel teachers should teach both ideas, then the kids can pick what they want to believe in. Instead of teaching one idea that might not be true. On the Hole, everyone ideas are different about this topic, however i believe the Genesis is a important part of history that shows a different view on how everything was created.

Books one and two of Genesis. ::]

My childhood revolved solely on Christianity, to start with I went to a Christian school for three years and went to church at least two times a week with my grandma. I’ve been read the book of Genesis, watched it, and read it myself. And I’m sure that is my childhood was different I would have reason to believe in God or Jesus, or care one bit about religion. The righting is quite bland I agree, but I believe in the big picture of The Bible. Maybe some details are not right, and who knows, maybe some random man sat down and wrote a story that over used the terms “…and it was so.” and, “…that it was good.” But think about that, hundreds of years ago, highly doubtful. I've read many blogs talking about how there is no proof in God or The Bible, but there is, you just have to look around you and maybe even read further into The Bible Other than saying woman is taken of man, and calling the wife “his wife” women were not treated poorly in Genesis, maybe in other books of the Bible though. As far as I’m concerned, I couldn’t care less if evolution is taught, I have my beliefs and some parts of evolution just don’t make sense to me, but not everyone should be forced to believe in God, OR evolution. I AM religious, but I don't let religion control my self choices. I AM a realist, and I am positive that there is no way to tell exactally what happened in the past, be that God, Moses, Adam or Eve, or even the almighty evolution.

I don't think it would be fair for it to be used as a legal document in a court case. It would be like someone writing down on a piece of paper that one person killed the other and because of that document a man went to jail. Plus, we have no proof that the Genesis is even true. So to use that against a man in a trial isn't fair.

Genesis

Genesis is one of many ways to view life and how we all came to be. It describes things that before science we indescribable. As apposed to evolution and everything turning into what it is over time the Book of Genesis states that everything was “created.” It infers that God simply said I want this to be and it was. The Book of Genesis says that God created Man. When it does mention females, which is only once in our reading, the Book says that women are only here to “replenish the earth.” This says that women have no other purpose then to bear children. This not only demoralizes women but says that Man is more powerful and has a greater purpose, and women are just here to serve them. In the third Book of Genesis the story is about Adam and his wife Eve. They are in the garden of Eden and they are told not to eat the fruit from a certain tree. When they do the blame is one the women for taking the fruit and taking a bite and then telling the man to take a bite. It says that it is the women's fault entirely. I do not think that the Bible should be used in a court of law due to the fact that not all people believe in the same thing. Using the Bible tells one person or a group of people that their beliefs are incorrect, if it is used against them. The Bible is a very interesting book, at times it is extremely difficult to believe because there is no evidentiary support behind it, but it does help explain the unexplainable.

I have never read the Bible and probably wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for this assignment. The Bible is terrifically bland in its word choice. The entire story consists of only about a dozen words and is so repetitive to the degree that it gets kind of worrying. It makes me wonder if anyone bothered to read it before it was published. The part of the text that bothers me the most is when it says that God created man in his image. I must say that I think that this sentence is backwards. Man created God in his image, not the other way around. Women could be looked at either way. Personally I think that the Bible is trying to make it seem like women are lower than men. I personally do not believe this and I see how it could be taken the other way. I still believe that this is meant to make sure that men are more powerful than men. The thought that a judge used this in court is also rather frightening. This document is not approved for use in any form of government in the US. The theory of Creation is simply speculation and cannot be used to sentence a person, or in regulating what they teach.

Genesis Blog

In the book of Genesis 1 and 2 tells you about what happened when God created the earth. I believe that he did create the earth in his own image and I have read this story before. This story is an old fashion type of writing. It says that God created man in his own image “after our likeness”. When God creates the earth, animals and sea he is repeating and it was good and it was so, what was good what was so. It also seems that ever time it refers it a person it refers to man not woman. It also says that man should rule over the animals and everything living and that woman should just be the ones to replenish the earth. The book of Genesis can help for some things but if there is nothing to back it up it doesn’t make sense to me.

In Genesis 3 God tells the women first not to eat the fruit and then tells the man, and if they eat from the tree "lest ye die". That really depicts women saying that God had to tell them frist because he knows that she will eat the forbiden fruit. Which she does. After Eve gives the fruit to Adam they relaize that they are naked and now care about there appearance. God comes into the graden of Edan and both Adam and Eve hide because they are naked now and are afraid now. But before Eve ate the apple she was not afraid of God. Also God gives Eve pain and tells he that when she has a baby she will feel pain, God doesnt do anything to Adam. My entire life I have been around the bible and and religious people, so the Book of Genesis was nothing new to me. I've heard the story several times and the writing style was quite familiar. It is nothing elegant or complex, it is there to inform people of God and nothing else. The bible isn't a very illustrious book, and it was never meant to be, as God does not care for Earthly things. We are to be humble, and if our most sacred religious document was written in complex style, it would be quite hypocritical. Also, the church wants everyone to know of God, and back in the day when not many people could read very well, the Church still wanted people to be able to read the bible. The bible is there just to be there, not to impress with fine writing, and even though I am not quite convinced of whether or not it is true, I still believe that the bible and the book of Genesis are very important documents.

Genesis

Genesis is something that I am formiliar with. I do believe that God created the world and he made man to reflect his qualities. Yes the writing in Genesis is a little simple and i believe that it is so that everyone can understand, but thats not how the whole bible is. there are so many different meanings that you can take from the story, and i know because i have heard several different ideas. I do not go to church on a regular basis but I am christian and i have read many parts of the bible, and throughout it, it continues to talk about the life we have and how God made us/man in "his own image and likeness". Yes it does bother me how the Bible sounds as if woman are not as important as men, that we are just here to assist the men, which is not true woman are just as capable of doing things men do. As for the court case, I personally dont think it was terrible to use the bible because so many people live by it. I think it was an unfair case though, because the one man who believed in evolution isn't wrong and he got punished for being 'wrong'. Schools should teach both of them or none of them, its not fair to just teach evolution, when yes many people do believe in it but others dont. Everyone should have a choice of what they want to believe

Genesis: Creation vs. Evolution

I have heard this verse before, but it has never struck me like it does now. Knowing that this was used as evidence in a court case makes me see this very differently. I believe that people should have religious freedom, and that what is taught in the classroom should not effect generations of relegious beliefs. They are both merely theories anyway. No one can prove anything from the book of Genesis or from the theory of Evolution. The seperation of church and state is important. Since schools are run by the state, the church should not have a say in what is or is not taught in the education process. Currently, it is hard for me to say whether or not I fully believe in the 6 days of labor that God took upon himself to create the world. Which brings me to another point. Young adults should be able to form their own opinion about what they do and do not accept or believe in. I think that, in a compromise, both views should be studied in classrooms so that there is no descrimination between evolution and creation.

Another thing that I have thought about from reading this verse from the bible is specifically about the creation of man and woman. Just because woman was created out of man does not make her any lesser. People would not exist without both parts of creation. The one thing that I think is a true statement is the fact that when everything was done, and the world was populated, God sat back and saw that it was good. I think, despite the many flaws, our world is good.

After thoughts:
After reading the Genesis 3, I have noticed that it is written in old English style. Although this can seem more challenging, it is all so simple. I think that was one of the goals when the book of Genesis was written; to be an easy read so that anyone of any age can understand it. Genesis 3 also depicts more of the Bible's view on women. "He shall rule over thee", Genesis 3:16 describes how women are the lesser part of creation, which is simply not true. For a document to be used in court, I believe that it has to be 100% fact, but the theory of creation is'nt because in todays modern world a woman can have just as much power as men.

In my view genesis is written very old fashioned.For me, as a catholic christian, it is ok if some people really think that genesis is true. I think everybody should have his own religion and mind. But nowadays you can´t say that women are made for " helping the men", thats against the human rights. I also think it´s really interesting that it explains how god made the world. Today we know that the world, is the world because of the evolutionary theory. But 2000 years ago, the people did not know that, so i think we can´t accuse them, that they believed it. Altogether, my opinion is that genesis is really antiquated and you can´t people force to believe it.

What I do not understand is why this piece of writing which is so famous is written in no higher style than what a second grader could do. All of the sentences start the same and end with the phrase, “and it was good.” On one hand, it makes it a lot easier to understand clearly what happened on each day, but it also confuses me. I haven’t read much of the bible, but I feel like most of it is written in such an elevated style that I would need someone to explain to me what it says. Simply, I feel like the diction and grammar was that of a seven year old.
In addition, I do not like how man is considered superior. The passage states that God creates man in his own image, and he does so before he creates anything else. The quote, “She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man,” angers me. It is saying that the woman was created merely to keep the man company and reproduce. By saying that “she was taken out of man,” it implies that the woman is lower, not equal.
Preposterous is the word that comes to mind when I think of a judge using this piece in court. First of all, it is about a religion, which means that it is mostly ideas. I am not saying that those ideas are not true, but since I for one am not a Christian, these ideas sound ridiculous to me. No one has proved that God created everything around us, and since science has come into play, it is getting very unlikely.

The word choice is in some of the oldest form of writing being Hebrew. So some of the repeating words could have something to do with that. But by repeating words over and over again it cements your thought and the thought they are trying to cement is that God is awesome in the full meaning of the word.
The treatment of women is kinda how you interpret it. You could think that the bible is dissing on women saying that without man woman could not have been conceived. Or you could look at it like, man needs woman so that he won't be lonely because it says, "It is not good that the man should be alone." And the reason that many women were looked on as inferior was due to lack of education. Until 1534 the bible was only printed in one language, Hebrew, and the only people who could read it was the Pope, Cardinals, and some highly educated scholoars. Then Martin Luther translated it from Hebrew into German and then the common German could read the Bible.
I do not feel that a Judge could use this document in a court setting. This country is founded on the freedom of Religion. Now if we had a required Religion the Judge could totally be able to have this as a ligament document in court.

Genesis was definitely interesting. The way it was written was simple. The words so, good, and, were used all the time. Big words or hidden meanings weren't even close to being in the story, so anyone could read it and understand. The only reason I can think of for it being so simple is so young kids can read it and understand their family's beliefs. The ideas are bizarre. This creature, that just magically appears, forms the whole world in one week. That is impossible, I think. After he creates the world in seven days he can just lay back and watch down on what he made forever. He also basically said that without men there wouldn't be women. Women came from men, because the woman came from his rib bone. I don't think anyone should look at Genesis as a reference, especially for a hearing in court. The story is not proven to be true, so a person's destiny should not be based on a little story. Also, a lot of people don't believe this so if a judge did use it, there is no way it would be fair because the whole story is about beliefs. If a judge is going to use false stories to make a decision he has some serious problems. Decisions should be made based on facts and evidence. For some people, they truly believe Genesis and God, and that works for them, but I don't think it is very helpful for anything.

There are thoes people that go to church but i am not one of them. I have never even thought about reading the bible because i know that evolution is true and that there is everything in the world to back it up that there were animals living 100 of thousands of years ago. The genesis uses a very werid and ackwaard word choes that is kind if hard to understand. It is a very old english style of writing. The bible was used in this court case to solve a crime but the bible is not true in everbodys mind. The bible is a book of theries and is not always true. They used the bible as evidence when there is no historical history to back it up.

The genesis is a very odd and weird part of history. The genesis is written a very weird way. It has a old english type writing to it but it is a very sloppy and poorly written pice of work. If this such an important part of history then why is written so poorly. I don't think that this  written should be able to be used in a court case. It kinda follows the bible in a way and the bible is not true to everybody. It is kind of just an excuse for if you are losing a court case the the judge is very religious. Women and men should all have the same rights. There is no reason why one shouldn't be able to do some that the other one can. I mean there are things that girls and boys have differences in and mite be better but we are all even no madder what.

Genesis Post

The words in the bible are structed weird so sometimes it is hard to understand. In this genesis the words, "and God said", "and it was so", and ever sentence starts with and. Some of the words remind me of the word Shakespeare used in his plays.In the Genesis the woman are treated like they aren't important to the world. It sounds like the woman has only been created because the man is lonely and needs someone. The man is in higher position because the woman was taken out of man, the woman is part of the man.The Judge was brilliant to use the bible because there are so many people that believe in it,(but not everyone) so the people of the town will be against the teacher. Any way you look at this case, it was unfair. If the teacher is hired he should be able to teach anything he wants to. It is also important for children to lean different things from what their parents tell them. There should be verity in there life so they can be taught both evolution and creation.

Genesis 1/2/3

In the book of Genesis one and two they used the same saying to separate the days. “And the evening and the morning” that quote is used seven times in Genesis one and two. The sentences were worded a little differently and it makes it confusing to understand at some times.

I never thought about how women were treated until Genesis 2:23 when Adam said “she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” That was the only part that stuck out to me about how women were made of men and are a lesser part of society.

In the third book of Genesis they use a lot confusing words and sentences. Also they blame everything on the women like why

they ate from the tree and why they are now wearing clothes.

In my opinion this should not be used in a court case because there are no real facts that any of this happened. With evolution

there is a lot more proof that it actually has happened.

Thoughts on Genesis 1 and 2

I have never been a religious person, and have never read any part of the bible, so reading Genesis was a new experience. The way that Genesis is written, feels very simple with very straight forward sentences. While reading, I thought that the book of Genesis was written for all people. It would make sense to the lower class, whom maybe didn't have the best reading skills, and for the upper classes who would find it easy to read and understand. The authors of the bible always portrayed "God" to see the good and evil in all, and to know what is right in everything. The line, "and it was so", and the line, "that it was good" constantly appears throughout the sections one and two of Genesis. To me, this seemed to be an interesting choice of words. For me it provides no explanation of why it was good or bad, and it doesn't say how or why the certain inventions of "God" came into being. This is probably because I have never believed in an "all powerful being" whom is always right and can do whatever they want. So these concepts of "blind faith" can be a little bit confusing/frustrating for me. Overall I can't understand why the Bible was accepted without proof or conflict.

Genesis Thoughts

While reading the Genesis, I felt that I was getting a total relapse of the past. The words are awfully repetitive and they are presented in a way that is incredibly proper (truthfully, it reminded me of Shakespeare). The same phrases are constantly being used and reused, such as “…it was good”. It also reminds me of the past because they say that women are a part of men, and that they belong to men. I feel that if a judge were to pull the Genesis out in court and use it, I would start laughing. No one can prove what happened in the past. No one was there to see the Creation happen, if it even did, and we weren’t there to know if we evolved from apes. Evolution and Creation should both be taught in school so we can create our own opinions on where we come from. The Genesis and ideas of Evolution are both important because from raw materials we can form our opinions.

Genesis in schools?

Of course the word choice for Genesis is unique and foreign. The words are complex, and filled with discussion from all the people to read over and ponder the bibles words. Many times the bible says, "and it was so." These words relax me. They tell the reader...and that's it. That's the truth, and that's that. These words are very confident, and i think this makes the reader feel safe and sure of what they're taking in. Also, the chapter Genesis says, "and God saw that it was good." This shows that God is pleased in what he made. The word choice with Genesis is very confident, comforting, and has flow i think. Since it was written such a long time ago, of course the writing is old and has history in it.

God made Eve out of Adam. He made her after him, i think many people interpreted this in saying women are below men. This took a change in society. Men became the top of the food chain. They pretty much owned their wives and treated them not too great. In Genesis, it starts to take over this idea. Also, Eve did the first wrong doing in eating the forbidden fruit and then tempting Adam to eat it. All in all, the women's image isn't too good in that particular book in the bible.

I feel that it isn't that big of a deal that the judge uses this book in the bible in court. It is a historical document. But, it isn't proven it's true. I personally think it is true so of course i lean towards the way of letting it be used. But not all people think so. It's all faith. You have to believe that it's true, and that's not necessarily ok when you bring the law into it. The law should involve pure facts and hard evidence.
