The significance of "night" in the novel is that the majority of the events happen at night. Also at night, everything seems to be much more gruesome and scary to the characters as well as the readers. At night, the prisoners had to fight their worries to stay faithful and try to stay positive. "Night. No one prayed, so that the night would pass quickly. The stars were only psarks of the first which devoured us. Should that fire die out one day, there would be nothing left in the sky but dead stars, dead eyes."
